Mini & Bonus

 

My main worry about the move has been whether or not Mini and Bonus would be ok with it. Wille and I also worried that they might want to wander off to our old place which isn't that far away.

We kept them inside for a week and a half and it was so frustrating. One, because the weather was great and we just wanted to fling the doors open and two, I could tell that Bonus in particular got sad from staying inside, he'd go downstairs and hide away in the basement.

So on Thursday I put harnesses and leashes on both of them and Wille and I took them on a tour of the back yard. We carried them and then set them down on the lawn so they could sniff around. We repeathed that on Friday and Saturday and early on Sunday morning I opended the back door.

Mini couldn't believe her eyes. She was like "Mom, the door is open, be careful, I might sneak out". 

 

 
 

Bonus appeared from the basement too after a few hours of not knowing that Mini was already outside. Then he went outside too and I could tell he was really happy.

 

 

They both wandered around and took it all in and also went over to both our neighbors to check their places out. Luckily we have the best neighbors ever who are totally ok with that.

I stayed outside all day and did some weeding and organizing in the patio area so they could see me at all times and in the evening after both Mini and Bonus had come inside we closed the door so they couldn't get out at night. We're now letting them out in the evening after work every day for a while until they're used to the surroundings and I plan to install the kitty door this weekend so they can come and go as they please.

The bathroom is ready. I still need to get a few things (like a shower curtain) until I'll show you the whole thing but this is how I spent Friday night. Bliss.

Please excuse the lateness of this post. I’m officially pooped. I was just saying to Wille how I have so much to post about but no time to write and edit photos. I get up at the crack of dawn on weekends and get on with stuff but there are just too few hours in a day! Also I have major internet issues and have very patchy online access. I spend at least an hour a day on the phone with the broadband/internet/phone/TV people. Frustration! I’m posting this at work this morning because I had wasn’t able to upload my Live writer written post yesterday and couldn’t upload photos to Typepad. Arrrghhh!

 

 

 

Anywho, this is my kitchen. It’s all IKEA and my contractors did an amazing job finishing it after IKEA forgot (!) to organize the construction of it. Duh! Good thing I have my contractors who stepped up and gave me a much better kitchen than I ever expected to have. Electrical outlets galore, recessed spotlight, you name it, I have it.

A couple of eyesores still; the dishwasher door is still missing because they were out at IKEA (and will have to wait at least another month…) and I’m waiting for my lovely fridge to arrive, hopefully this week.

Other than that, what can I say? I love it.

List No.20: Things I need to Get for the House

So here’s a little sneak peek of the kitchen with some of my contractors doing their magic on it. I love these guys!!! This was the state of the kitchen on the day we moved in exactly a week ago. It has since been finished and I promise I’ll show you more next week after I get a chance to take some decent photos this weekend!

So on to this week’s list: Things I need to get for the house.

* Living room furniture. Seriously, I have a bed in there (not counting the new bed I got at IKEA on Sunday which I sleep on) and a bookshelf and that’s it. And why, oh why didn’t I get the two armchairs I saw at the local charity shop yesterday? I’m betting they will be gone when I get there tomorrow…

* A carpet for the living room. I think I will need something to pull the sitting area together.

* Fabric for a shower curtain. Oooh, I still need to show you the bathroom! Wiiiiie!

* An assortment of lamps. Lamps are so tricky. And expensive.

* A TV for the upstairs hall/den. Once we have that we can move the white one from upstairs to downstairs.

* A full length mirror for the hall. I accidentally left ours at the old house when we moved.

* A small writing desk for me. I’ve given up on the idea of the home office upstairs.

* A bedside table for me and one for Wille.

* An armchair for the den.

* Hooks for the hall.

* A table for outside.

I hope to get most of these things second hand cheaply but will probably spend a little more on some items. I really look forward to shopping but at the same time I dread having to spend time going places when all I want to do is stay at home and tinker about.

So, now I’m hoping for decent weather this weekend, a few more hours of sleep per night than this past week and that those armchairs are still available!

Little Loo Shelf Makeover

We have a small WC on the hall level and as I’ve said before I’m not doing anything dramatic to it just yet but we do need a little bit of storage in there. I found this wooden plank in the basement and it had somewhat the correct dimensions.

 

 

So I cut it down to the right size with the intention to add brackets I had bought but as I was tapping the shelf into place it got stuck between the walls and I realized no brackets were necessary!

It’s one ugly shelf though, scribbles underneath and all, free floating or not, so something needed to be done about it. I considered paint but I wanted a quick, fairly no mess, fix.

 

Enter a scrap bit of wallpaper from the old house and some wallpaper paste. It’s not the correct type of paste for that type of wallpaper but in that instance I couldn’t care less. I just slapped it on, let it soak for a little while and then…

 

… after a bit of drying time, Hey Presto, a Wild Flower green shelf.

 

Oh, and I went to Ikea on Sunday (don’t go to Ikea on a rainy Sunday) and among way too much other stuff got the towel hooks and matching TP holder and T-brush. Cheap and simple.
