Access to the House!

Yay!

Today I’m signing the last of the documents and the house will finally all ours! The long Easter weekend will be spent demo-ing, tearing up the old floors upstairs, dismantling the kitchen and hopefully get some painting done too (with a new venue egg hunt somewhere in between IF the Easter bunny can find us…).

 

I’ve bought Wille and myself a nice black crow bar each to celebrate! Double yay!

So Many Choices

Check out that stack of catalogs. They’re almost exclusively about bathrooms! I had no idea there was that much to choose from out there to be honest. A lot is kind of same same but there are some gems amongst those pages. It’s been kind of difficult to choose actually. All this stuff is fairly expensive and while I want the tub and sink to be nice I’m not sure I want to spend 5000 kronor (USD 715) more on a super nice toilet as opposed to one that looks really nice.

 

Here’s how I’m narrowing it down. Little green stick on page markers and dog ears when I ran out… Almost done making my choices, just need to make sure I get the best price for it all…

Packing

Not the best shot but it shows how much help I’m getting packing everything. Miss Nosy likes to get into the empty boxes just as I’m about to put something in them. Sweetie :).

 

So it always gets worse before it gets better, doesn’t it? This was the state of the garage on Saturday as I started to pack everything in the storage room. Stuff kind of spilled over. While I was packing I also collected all the things I’ll be bringing over to the house later this week like tools and paint etc. Can you believe we’re finally getting full access to the house on Thursday? Wiiie!

 

If you think the garage looks messy take a look at the storage room pre boxing everything. The way I’m going about it is that I’m actually boxing boxes. Since I’ve understood that the movers prefer if all the boxes are uniform in size I’m placing my boxes inside their boxes. Next to my smaller boxes I add loose things to fill the spaces. This way I can just lift my boxes out and it’ll be easy to get reorganized when I get to the house.

 

Here’s a photo mid way. Almost done packing Wille’s and my belongings in the entire basement. Martin will be getting his stuff in a week or so and then I can spread my boxes out to stacks of three which is the preferred height for the movers apparently.

All these boxes are reused so previous user’s contents have been scribbled on them in various places. I’ve chosen to write my contents on white stickers and they’re all placed on the upper right corner of the boxes so I’ll know where to look. I used markers so the contents will be easy to spot later. I haven’t marked the backs of the boxes so Wille and I will be supervising as they arrive so the stickers will be facing out.

On Sunday I didn’t get to do a whole lot of packing as I had other stuff to do (like make a final decision on the floor for upstairs and the kitchen at the new house) but now that the basement is 95% packed away I’m confident that the rest will go smoothly. Packing is FUN!

Let the Packing Begin

 

Tuesday 12th marked one month to moving day!

I’ve hired movers to do the actual moving and they mistook the date by exactly that month and as I was sitting attentively at a Google seminar on Tuesday morning I got a slightly desperate text message from Wille saying the movers were on our door step ready to start taking stuff out of the house… Haha!

Everything got sorted out quickly though and now that we have the boxes which they brought a few days ago (did they really expect me to pack up a household within a couple of days from delivering the boxes?) the packing can begin.

I’ve got a total of ONE HUNDRED BOXES! If someone would have asked me how many boxes I would need I’d have said thirty but my moving expert friend Anne used 100 moving out of her house and 80 moving from one apartment to another and since I apparently have no idea what I’m talking about I ordered the hundred boxes. I figure I don’t have to use them all and better have too many than too few.

So, wanna bet how many I end up using? I’ll even throw in a little goodie (which I’ll send anywhere in the world) for the person getting closest to the correct number. I promise I won’t peek at your numbers and adjust my packing accordingly :).

Sold!

 

As most of you probably guessed last week we sold our house! I wanted to wait until the deposit was paid before I did my happy dance here on the blog which is why I didn’t post about it immediately.

The 10% deposit has now been paid and the selling price was 5 million SEK / USD ~715 000, just over the asking price at 4.9 million. I’m really pleased because it’s what I expected to get and a fair price.

The new family moving in is super nice. They have a seven month baby boy and are looking forward to living in a house for the first time.

I on the other hand am now looking forward to tackling all those things on my to-do list which have been on hold until the deposit was paid. Lots of things to arrange and lots to order!
