Today it’s exactly five years since I started this blog and without much thought named it Chez Larsson, at the Larsson’s. Little did I know the popularity it would gain and how many of you that would tune in daily, weekly or on occasion since then.
The blog has given me so much. I’ve gained online friendships and offline ones too. It’s seen me going from married 20 years to being single again. It’s also witnessed Wille grow from a teenager into a (very handsome if I do say so myself) man and Mini and Bonus our furry love interests have also made frequent beloved appearances.
Chez Larsson started out in one house and moved on to the next with what went into living in and organizing one as a family of three, moving and renovating the other as a single mom and everything else that went into a “house, home and hobby” which was what my header said back in the beginning.
I’ve done quite a lot of thinking these past months. Thinking about what I want to do, work wise, in my personal life and with the blog. Some things unfortunately can’t be changed, such as me working full time. I need the income, it’s as simple and boring as that. Some things can stay as they are as far as I’m concerned, such as my personal life, I’m very happy being single (until I find my Williamsburg hunk…). Some things do need a bit of a change though and that would be me blogging as frequently and as scheduled as I do.
I remember writing in my very first post about blogging “Do I have the time? No, not really, but I’ll make time somehow…one always does when one wants to and I do!”. And I did. For five years. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the interaction with you guys and I love sharing stuff with you but I’ve come to realize that it’s just not realistic to maintain a hobby blog the way I have. I know of a lot of great bloggers that post as frequently as I have or more but then I realize they do it for a living and can devote their full time to it and everything around it that goes into a professional blog. I guess I just have to acknowledge that I’m not a full time blogger.
So what to do and how to go about it? One option obviously was be to stop blogging altogether but I think I’d miss it. So instead I’ll cut down. I can’t at this moment say when or how often I’ll post from now on. Some weeks there might still be five posts but other weeks there may be fewer and if I’m really busy or when the weather is particularly nice occasionally none. My aim is not to post on a schedule like I have in the past. I tend to fall into schedules and planning and kind of feel that’s what I need to get away from in my time off work. Go crazy and post randomly, you know.
So what will I do with my freed up time? Like I said at the end of last year I’d like to spend more time hanging out with friends, going places, learning new stuff. I hope to brush up on my photography and editing skills (RAW finally!), maybe take a pottery class, spend a lot of time outdoors in summer and even spend some Sundays just lounging around in my pjs without five posts to prepare for the upcoming week. Live a little bit more basically.
So with that, I thank you so much for being a huge part of my life these past five years. I’m sorry to disappoint those of you who like to start off your weekdays with me (that’s been such an honor!) but I hope you understand my decision.
♥ Benita
