Box Podiums

I like to create little groupings on top of my Snö cabinets. They change with the seasons and here’s a photo I took in early spring after I picked some reeds during one of my power walks.

 

To create nice tight groupings it can be helpful to use podiums to tie everything together and give height to your group. When I got the wooden box back in July I knew it would come in handy some day and a couple of weeks ago I dug it out and used the two parts as podiums.

 

 

The items displayed are basically the same as in the first image but the look is totally different because of the podiums.

I don’t have a whole lot of stuff compared to a lot of other people because I’m constantly purging and minimizing but I can never pass up a good box!

Gray Wall

Remember my green wall?

 

Going, going…

 

…gone!

 

I just felt like having something calmer in the desk area and the grey is actually from a can I rescued from being tossed at work years ago (back in 2002 according to the date on the can). We were trying out a new store concept and were playing around with different grays.

 

I’m glad we didn’t use it back then because here it’s pretty much perfect! If you’re wondering about the name, it says NCS 1502-Y50R on the can. A good paint store should be able to translate the NCS color system to your country’s system. Anyway I love how it turned out and it was such a quick fix!

Vinyl

Here’s Wille’s desk area in his room as it used to look with the cube shelves (self built) with the Simpsons collection above.  We kind of felt it was time for a change to reflect that Wille’s older now and also his interest in music.

Wille got one of those vinyl players from Martin for Christmas, you know the kind where you can transfer the music to MP3. He also got part of Martin’s old vinyl collection and some of those album covers are so awesome so I thought they would look cool there above the desk.

 

I considered all kinds of frames but in the end I got him a set of these Art Vinyl play and display ones (I got mine from Ginza.se). They are more expensive than the album frames from places like Urban outfitters but what I love about these is that they open super easily so you can switch records in a matter of seconds while the frame is still on the wall.

 

I started out by hanging London Calling, an Iggy album and this boot leg Lou Reed one but Wille can now easily switch them around at his heart’s content.

Summer/Winter

Remember my tray set up behind the stove to protect the tile and make for easier cleaning. I really love it and it’s so much easier to wipe that the subway tile and grout.

 

For winter I wasn’t feeling the green anymore so I got another tray in navy (LOVING navy right now although I do know that my favorite green apparently is THE color at the moment). I also switched the dish drainer out for the white version. La-la-love this look and I love how easily a switch of trays can change the mood in the kitchen.

To Pine or Not to Pine

Great lamp bases are hard to find and if you buy retail they’re expensive so I can never resist one in a great shape when I go to the flea market or charity shop.

Check out my latest find. It’s BIG (I seem to have a thing for BIG right now and this is 43 cm/17 inches tall). It’s PINE (I haven’t had a thing for PINE in a loooong time. I think the last time I liked pine was when I did the bedrooms at IKEA in Warrington, UK, circa 1989 and didn’t mind the pine meets bright colors one we did there).

My immediate thought was to get it, sand it and spray it. The longer I’ve had it (a month or so) I’m thinking maybe I should sand it and varnish it. Have I gone mad? You tell me!
