So here’s a long overdue post. I receive e-mails and comments all the time about Stockholm. Where to stay, what to do, where to eat and where to shop. When it comes to staying and eating I don’t have a clue I’m afraid but I do know of some nice shops so here goes.
* R.o.o.m at PUB - Fun and useful home accessories, design and furnishings in a range from the quite affordable to the expensive.
* 3rd floor furniture department at NK – Top of the line home décor.
* Illums Bolighus – Danish home goods and design store just opposite from NK.
* Svenskt Tenn – Classic Swedish Designs by the likes of Josef Frank and Estrid Ericson. It’s where I get my elephant fabrics among other things. Expensive but worth a look.
* Granit - Great for storage and home accessories in white, natural, grey and black.
* Åhléns City – The basement floor houses the home goods department, the fabrics department (great selection of quite affordable fabrics by the yard) and MUJI!
* Bruka Design – Lovely home store. Read more about it here.
* Village – Another lovely store with home décor items. It’s where I got this amongst a few other things.
* Designtorget – Great selection of cool contemporary design.
* Lin o Fin – Lovely home décor store with mainly Swedish designs. Also my friend Sanna’s mom’s store.
* Iris Hantverk – Lovely brooms and brushes made by visually impaired craftsmen.
* Svensk Hemslöjd – Swedish traditional handicrafts.
* Ohlssons Tyger – Fabrics by the meter.
* 10 Gruppen – Bold prints on clothing and home accessories by a group of Swedish designers.
* Design House Stockholm - Swedish modern design. There's one a NK in the basement.
* Marimekko – Iconic Finnish designs.
* Kalikå – Cute and fun toys for kids.
* Panduro Hobby – Craft supplies.
* Kreatima – Art and crafts supplies.
* Ljunggrens Papper – Wonderful paper goods store in the old town.
* Clas Ohlson – DIY store.
* Byggfabriken - Remakes of vintage hardware and fittings.
* Stadsmissionen – Charity shop, also sells remake items.
* Myrorna – Charity shop.
Those are the stores I frequent most often. Please feel free to add to the list by leaving a comment!
Ps. The Stockholm map bag in the photo is by Frösö Handtryck. I got it at R.o.o.m.
THANK YOU! I will be going there after winter. I want Muji. I want Muji. Why can't we get those here in the states? Or can we? Anyone know??

Thanks so much, Benita! I am so happy to have this information for the next time my husband gets to go to Stockholm. He really enjoyed shopping there last time.

Ahlens was kind of a neat place. I went to the Ahlens City you recommended when I was in Stockholm last Christmas and bought Muji items. I love Marimekko's stuff, you can get it at Crate and Barrel stores here in the US. I quite recommend visiting the Ikea at Kungenskurva as well, it was very impressive and not all of it is exactly the same as in the US.

MUJI is the best! That's one of my "must do:s" when I visit my mother in Hong Kong after Christmas. I do beleive that Granit is based on the MUJI concept - simple items, without logos or anything like that. Although Granit is much cheaper.
I'd recommend Norrgavel as well, it's on Birger Jarlsgatan 27, within walking distance from NK, Åhléns City and Sergels Torg. It's pricey, but they have some really good stuff.

Där fick du väl i princip med alla roliga affärer, förutom Stockhome då (som Anne tipsade om).

More reasons to go back to Stockholm! When I was there this summer, I picked up several fabrics, oilcloths and purses at 10 Swedish Designers. I get complements on my purse constantly!

Love the furry kitty on your furry chairs ;)...looks like you got approval on your winterized chair decor!
Sounds like Stockholm is a great place to shop.

For coffee...don´t miss the cafe called Vetekatten (Kungsgatan I think) Very traditional, old style sewdish café!! No chair or table is the same as the next one and there are a lot of nooks and crannies to sit in! Lovely place!!
Oh Benita! You just made me wanna visit Stockholm again. I used to live there, but haven´t been there for about five years now! Must go soon!

Muji now has a NY store, and they sell via the web in the U.S. After seeing them on here, I just had to get one of those little boxes for the plastic wrap! I use it so rarely that by the time I need it again, the box is smushed and worthless for tearing.

My bf and I've been thinking of going to Stockholm at some point next year so yay for shopping advice!
Also, the bag is awesome!

Hi Benita,
Any chance you could take pictures of your neighborhood, shops etc dressed in Christmas finery? You posted pictures of decor stores a time or two but I'd love to see regular places too. Coffee shops? pastry shops? department stores? bus stops? people?
Thanks!

I very much like Anna Hedstrand's fabrics; she has a shop at Köpmantorget in the old town. Not cheap, but beautiful---sunny and cheery and colorful.
Riddarbageriet at Riddargatan 15 is a great bakery. mmmm....

This summer I spend one week in Stockholm with my partner and really enjoyed it. I would like to add the Fotografiska museum to the list, there exhibiations are stunning as the place itself. The have a nice bookshop and a great cafe, too. We stayed in Rival Hotel in Södermalm that I can also recommend. If you are into fashion, don't miss the Acne Flagshipstore. Oh, there is also a really nice store with household goods, I got a cute litte wooden spoon there that makes my smile every time I use it. And never ever miss coffee and kanelbullar when you are in Sweden!

Sweden is not at all as the States when it comes to Holiday Decor. There are decorations but no where as grand as over there. I'll see if I can find some to take photos of :)

I was going to email you and ask you where I could find white christmas stockings (the kind you hang on the mantel piece) and then it turns out that good old IKEA have brought out perfect ones in white, with a grey snow flake pattern which are just *PERFECT* for my all white Christmas :)

That's what I was hoping to see, a less over the top celebration. :)

Found your blog only a couple weeks ago and loving it! Your hands-on work is so inspirational.
Stockholm being the number one place to visit on my next year's list, I'm definitely saving this list. Thank you!!
