After months and months of searching for a coffee table in charity shops and online I finally bought one full price in a store. In the end it was just a matter of making a decision because not having one was kind of unpractical.
The tricky bit to me was finding something that would go well with both the 18th century sofa and the 1970’s plastic Galaxy chairs. I wanted something simple. I considered all kinds of alternatives including various nesting tables and a Muji Perspex version of the table I got.
In the end I chose Bond by EM Möbler. I bought it via their website and a phone call to the store and didn’t see it IRL until I unpacked the parcel but I’m really pleased. It’s a good size, it’s white and it’s simple. It IS something that I could have built myself had still had the tools but I’m glad I was able to buy something off the rack. Wille also approves.
In case you’re wondering why you don’t get to see the Galaxy chairs in these shots, its because they’re getting a makeover right now and are kind of indisposed. Will show you the makeover as soon as I’m done with it, probably next week. That’s a promise.
Good Morning, Benita! yesterday you spoke of your daily routine and your blog is a definite part of my daily rutine! :)
The coffee table seems fit so well! I am only surprised that it is with no wheels?

Wow this is great! I love it and wish I could have one in my living room - well chosen!

Haha, I did consider coffee tables with wheels but since I have wheels on the TV unit next to it I figured it would be too much :).

Great looking table! Looks right at home there.

I think that the clean lines complement the slightly more ornate sofa well.
It is one of those pieces of furniture that go well with pretty much anything.
Best Wishes

What a great little table! I love the sleek and clean look - it goes together really well with your "old" sofa. I've come to really love a lot of white, with a touch of wood (like floors or window sills) and a hint of colour (green is great, but sometimes orange or pink are fine too). See, your style is verrrrry inspiring!
Thanks so much for blogging every single weekday - visiting your site after coming home from work is almost like catching up with a friend!
Has Bonus returned home yet?

I really like the table.. clean lines are never wrong.
Also love the fairy lights up the side of the window.. are they disguising vertical water pipes feeding the radiator by any chance ?? ;o)

Sweet! I am on the lookout for a coffee table myself, I know how hard it is to find something "just right". I am very handy, but I have never built anything, don't have the tools or the space to do it, but I really wish I did...I know exactly what I want! Your place is coming along beautifully! I also love reading your blog everyday...first thing in the morning with my cuppa. so...Goodmorning!

No, he hasn't...

I was looking for a place for the fairy lights and saw the pipes so it's not really to conceal them, more a convenient place to hang them off :).

My kids are making a mess, 'purging' their toys left and right all over the living room. Thanks for giving me this little window of peace and perfection chez vous. Sigh. Back to reality.

Love the juxtaposition of the modern with the antique. Perhaps Santa will bring you some power tools for Christmas! What would be THE ONE that you are finding you miss most?

Just love your new coffeetable (and everything else in your house).
I've been looking for a new table myself - now I can just go to a nearby EM-store to have a final look before i make up my mind...
Thanks for a great blog - my day is not complete without a visit!!!

I ditto all the comments about my daily visit to your blog. I'm even stopping by during my late lunch-time to pay you a visit - couldn't wait until I got home later this evening. LOVE the table! it fits with your decor & style - you call the twinkling lights "fairy lights" - are they the type someone would put on a Christmas tree? and they appear to be "pink" - if that is true, did you have to order them special to get pink? I can only get white, blue, green or red... perhaps I'm looking in the wrong shops.

So smooth and flowy - very nice. "Get well soon" to the indisposed Galaxy chairs :-D.

Peaceful.cozy and bright.Love the coffee table.A lovely room to head into the dark winter nights .What project would you take on if you had the right tools?

Well it kills two birds with one stone 'cos they look great.

Right now it's not so much about the right tools. It's more the fact that the hobby room is quite small and there's not a whole lot of space to do carpentry. I don't want to be in the large room off it either because I use it for storage and don't want saw dust all over. For now I'll just stick to smaller projects and in summer to the ones I can do outside and get the tools I need when and if I really need them :).
Posted by: Carlos | November 02, 2011 at 04:56 AM
They are the same type but they have little plastic "flower heads" over the bulbs which gives then a slightly different glow. And they're actually white and not pink, the photo isn't showing them correctly :).
Posted by: Carlos | November 02, 2011 at 05:04 AM
Umm, that's what I tried to do but none of the Stockholm stores had it in their showroom which is why I bought it unseen... Call ahead to check if they have it first!
Posted by: Carlos | November 02, 2011 at 05:06 AM
I have no words to describe how awesome I think that coffee table is. Really. It's exactly the kind of thing I would LOVE to get. I have often looked at the clear/perspex ones of the same shape, so now I'm torn between white, and transparent. (We have two white Kivik sofas - and I'm thinking that transparent over a duck egg blue rug - which I still need to buy - is a good idea?) What do you think?
Posted by: MacLeod House | November 02, 2011 at 10:58 AM
I think they would go well together!
Posted by: Carlos | November 02, 2011 at 11:02 AM
Fabulous choice, Benita!
I'll be missing you during Simplify101's Holidays class. I'm taking it again as the community is very fun, alas, not the same without you!

Love it! Things are coming together. Can't wait to see the Galaxy chairs! One question though, how do you clean your roller blinds? Or do they ever even need to be cleaned? I'm definitely considering them for my next place.
Posted by: Maureen@ Notes on a Visual Life | November 03, 2011 at 02:27 AM
I don't, just dust them but I have cut the bottom piece off in the past where it's become dingy and re-sewn the channel for the rod. Our windows are nowhere as tall as the fully rolled out blinds so that's a great way to give them a second life.

Awww! Aby asked me if I could participate again this year but I simply don't have the time to devote a whole weekend to it this year. I miss it a little bit though...
