Roller Blinds

I’m not a fan of curtains. I don’t know why but I don’t get those floor length things and I HATE the kind that puddles on the floor. Sorry if you have them and I offended you but to me they’re just dust (and pet hair) collectors.

I did need something for the windows on the first floor though. 1) Because the sun is really bright at this side of the house 2) Because it’s alright without anything in summer but come winter these windows will look like pitch black squares and 3) Because of privacy reasons, I sleep on this floor in this open space after all.

I love the simplicity of roller blinds. I  always have. My problem in this house has been finding long enough ones that don’t have to be custom made and thus cost a fortune. Once again Ms. Google came to the rescue.

 

 

If you are in Sweden and you need roller blinds of a longer than in store standard length, check out this place, Rollodin! Like I said, Ms. Google helped me find them and they have no idea I’m writing this post so this raving review is entirely because I love them.

Rollodin have so many fabric options (I chose pure white polyester after requesting and getting several fabric swatches), lengths (I bought four roller blind in three different lengths), rolling and hanging options (I went for hidden rolls and in one case a closer to the window option because of some pipes) and the option to switch from plastic pull chain to metal (I went for metal). The delivery was within a week and I paid a small fee to have it all delivered to my door. They were super easy to install and I’m super happy now that all four windows have the same simple pure white blinds. Oh, and they weren’t super expensive either. Aaaah!

They look great Benita, we have just bought a house and I couldn't agree more about the curtains! I do like roller blinds but also like roman blinds. They are on my list of things to do in the new house. You should see the horrid curtains they have now! They also have terrible suede effect purple walls in 3 of the rooms that will be going immediately!

Isn't it icing on the cake when you find the product you need and you like it and it's exactly what you wanted and on top of all that you get great service and a reasonable price? The blinds look great.

Oh yes, looking very smart - do they have metal centre tubes? We have some long ones with cardboard and they seem to have all developed a bend in the middle!

And those cushions are multiplying!

that's funny, i love blinds, if they are as beautiful as this, but then i moved into an edwardian house with very tall windows, and now in our old cottage, all that heavy fabric helps to warm things up. so don't come and look when i make heavy, long, pleated curtains to keep the winter out of our single glazing! the little paned windows look like the christmas carol all winter - ice on the inside! i'll be making roman blinds as well. rollers would look very odd here. x!

Loving your blog Benita. I was thinking about your blinds when you showed us your Bedroom Nook and I was looking at them and thinking that they looked a bit 'see through'. I was just wondering if, with the light on at night, are you still left with little privacy? I often wonder if it's only me that worries about my naked outline being illuminated at night to be seen by all! I guess that's why I opt for blackout blinds. x

Actually, the very sheer Enje blind you saw in my bedroom nook has been replaced by one of these white ones which is a much denser weave and I've checked, you can't see inside when the blind is closed :)

I love long curtians, simple white, it somehow softens the room. Since my furniture is very clean and without much colour etc.

What i dislike are long curtains ending 5 cm before they reach floor, like if they ended in a dryer and came out damaged...it has to be the exact floor lenght, not even 1-2 cm longer...

Nice! Curtains are the bane of my existence. We have lived in our house for over 2-1/2 years and I have yet to hang a single window treatment. Our house has built in roller shutters and the bathroom windows are frosted, so I guess I don't have enough motivation. Plus installation is going to be a drag for most of the windows. Your blinds give just the right look. Will have to check out the Google options for Germany.

They look lovely, clean and elegant. Your sofa bench is looking lovely now with it's shorter legs, cushions and throw, its looking much more 'you'. I really love your small lights, are they around some pipes? it's looks as though that's what is there in the top photo. I would never have thought of doing that, it's very effective.

We have these on our windows here in Southern California (Blindsgalore.com), except ours are opaque. We get a lot of sun so it's nice to block it out for sleeping, tv watching, etc., when needed.

We still need to build some white valances to cover the roller part for ours but it's not pressing.

You're right that curtains just collect dust and pet hair. Makes me sneeze!

Yes, those are the pipes for the radiator in Wille's room. I attached the lights with cable ties at the top and let them hang from there.

I know, how great is that! After I looked at the bench several times and didn't buy it I finally took the measurements and realized that it was perfect. It was weven better when I realized that someone had actually chopped it down to that perfect length for me :).

We have attached roller blinds to the bottom of the window so we can still get light coming in from the top of the window but still have privacy where we need it.

I SO agree about puddled curtains. I hate them and always wonder why they don't get tangled up in the vac. Maybe those who have them don't do their own housecleaning. ;)

These are what we call Sheer Roller Blinds and are the most popular roller blinds we do on our website. They are now available in quite a few colours.

The sheer effect allows you to see a good bit of detail out of the window but prevents anyone from the outside seeing in during the daytime. Although i would warn against turning the light on at night and assuming no-one can see in. Depending on the translucency of the fabric you can sometimes see shadows at night with the light on.

Was wondering about that. I have the Enje blinds in my kitchen to keep some of the sun out (it is south-east direction) (seen here http://www.ninisworld.com/wordpress/?p=377). I am happy with those - doesn't take the light away. Which kind of cloth are these you choose? Are they the semi-transparent sort or just white?

These are white polyester and you can't see out through them but they still let shaded light in.
