It may seem silly that one of the first rooms in the new house that I’ve tackled is the hobby room. You’d think it would be nicer to get some work done in the living room but there are two reasons for this.
1) The living room is PACKED with the contractors stuff and the mounted kitchen units and 2) I’ll be keeping all my tools and DIY supplies in the hobby room and if it is ready I can instantly find what I’m looking for when I do all the rest of the projects.
The floor was in ok shape but because it’s just off the garden and they kept the lawn mover etc in there it was grimy and stained.
So after a good clean with a special pre painting cleaner I re-painted the floor. I got a lighter color than the original one but that was kind of an accident. I thought I chose a very similar color but I must have misread the color code… Ah well, I like this one too so it’s ok.
I have to say I LOVE paining concrete. The paint goes on so smoothly and finds it was into any little dents and the result after two coats and three days of curing is SO satisfying. And it’s SO EASY too! La-la-love it.
There it is, my painted hobby room floor. Now I desperately want to paint the door too, its griminess really sticks out in a room where everything else is done. One day I’ll get to you!
Looks great! But I'm with you about the door.

Hope that makes up for the pain-in-the-neck sprayer!! x

Is there something different about the wall below the door?

Oh, and I totally agree with Nicola! Glad it was so easy!

Count down! Three days to go! Tjohej!

Yes it's looking really great. In the shot of the paint as you were applying it it looked white, but now looks like a pale grey and very nice too. I love your systematic approach to it all. Good luck

Must have been nice to get a good painting experience after the bad first date with the spray painting gizmo. The floor looks great!

Completely agree to tackle the hobby room first! After my last move I did exactly this. Makes working through the 'rest' of the house so much easier!

The result is really great! :-)

This looks great, what a clean and fresh look. That's the trouble with painting, you never seem to be finished...fresh paint makes the not painted door stand out, painting the door makes trim stand out...and it just keeps going and going.

Oh yes, do the door - it has an air of 'prison' about it!!

Totally agree with you on getting the hobby room done first. When we moved back into our house after renovating, my husband got his workshop settled while I worked on the rest of the house. Once he had that settled, he could find a hammer when I needed a shelf or picture hung!

I can almost smell the new paint with it all looking so fresh!
I wonder how long it will stay this clean. I guess if you don't store the lawnmower in there it should be a lot easier to keep up with dirt.
Just thinking of our own garage where we painted the floor and walls a nice light colour... well... on the floor it wasn't that clever actually ;-(.

So Clean, So White, So Benita! I love reading your posts, you always inspire me, even when it is just the hobby room floor.

Very inspiring! I have been wanting to do the same to the floor in our garage. The previous owners of the house were some sort of artists (maybe they were making large '80s sunglasses paintings, too!) and there are many, many paint splats and drips of every imaginable color on the floor. I'm afraid I would have to remove all of that in order to make the painted floor look nice and even. Any advice? Thanks!

This looks great - very clean!

The floor paint goes traight up to the door. I just followed what was painted originally :).

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Indeed. Must rectify. Like soon!

If it's the garage floor and if they are just paint drips, I'd just paint over them (that's what I did). It's not like it's your parlour. I used a steel brush to scrape off any loose bits and a bit of sandpaper in some trouble spots but then the paint just went over any minor bumps :).

so beautiful. you are a brave woman, i couldn't ever keep up with cleaning a light floor - even light stairs used to drive me mad. i have to agree, preparing the workshop to build or decorate the rest of the house from is a wise decision. xx

god it looks gorgeous. for some reason this is especially satisfying to me, too.

Can you post the steps exactly to painting the concrete floor? I want to paint my basement floor. Is it slick after you paint?
Posted by: Kelli | May 10, 2011 at 01:29 AM
It's better to read the instructions on the can of paint you're buying as the preparations can vary depending on what's in the paint and the surface you are painting. Basically you need to de-grease the floor so the paint can stick to it properly, but check the can and ask for advice at your local paint store.
By slick do you mean slippery? The paint I got has a bit of a sheen to it but isn't slippery as far as I can tell.

I like the idea of reusing old stuff. Think you're clever to put them in the basement and just "pimp" them up a bit. Looks really nice with the paint in them. What's going in the others?

Thank you. Yes, I did mean slippery.

Hello! It's my first coment in your blog, congratulations everything looks so nice!
Can you please let me know what paint did you use for the floor, and if it is easy to wash it?
Thank you very much.

Don't know whereabouts in the world you are but the Swedish brand I used is Alcro Entré. It is really easy to keep clean if your floor underneath is smooth.
