Cleaning the WC Floor

Exciting post today! I’m cleaning a floor. In the WC. I can hear you all get excited.

Anyway, like I said I’m not doing much in here for the time being but I did want to try and remove those rust colored stains on the original stone floor.

 

 
Did a bit of googeling and found a marble and stone cleaner. The instructions said to dilute with water but I figured I had bigger problems than just dirt so I used it in the concentrated version and used steel wool to scrub.

 

Ha! Pretty good, non? Still a hint of the stain but you can actually see it better in this photo than IRL. I’m pretty psyched! Still to do is to re-grout those wall tiles and caulk the corners and scrape of that little bit of paint around the pipes. After that, pop on a nice plush bath mat and the flooring situation in here is done!

I enjoy your posts so very much. Your blog is the first thing I read each morning. It gives me inspiration. The compost post from yesterday had me wondering where you get your energy. I believe my problem with cleaning an area is not being adamant about throwing stuff away. But I keep trying and asking myself "what would Benita do?"

"Professionally Speaking"--Boy is that a familiar sight. If I recall correctly you plan on re-doing the floor at some point? My observation is Thank Goodness modern "steel wool" is sometimes now actually not steel. (I'm thinking 3M, the dark green scrubbers) Your particular floor color will also hide it, but if you used actual steel wool, it would have left an embedded layer of steel dust/filings (rusting) residue, lacking a flooding/wet vac rinse off. On a lighter floor, rust would show up.With your color of tile, I'd say you're good, here.

This reminds me of some kitchen scouring pads- the ones with soap in them. In my experience, some have a wax in the soap that automatically burns once a pan is heated, thus ensuring you need to use more of them. Way to keep a customer buying! In any case, using a Medium heat setting on pans saves lots of time and minimizes scorching, avoiding scrubbing in the first place.

Finally got our Ikea sink with faucet installed in the bathroom, the sink is the mid-size rectangular one with the "jewelry" (has stainless hooks, and a small tray, plus soap dish, all which clip onto the neat rim). The faucet was a huge hassle, despite my husband being a seasoned plumbing installer at home (30 years) and hardware store manager, totally up on plumbing supply materials, this is European, and had odd fittings, he had to improvise. (we are in the US) From my point of view, I like it a lot. The heavy, solid brass faucet (very contemporary, with small stick controller) with the brushed finish MUFFLES the water as it flows. My mornings just got beautifully quieter! YAY! And I suspect that, contrary to virtually every US bathroom faucet I've used (and cleaned many more!) I think this sink will actually hold water, not slowly drain it out. Time will tell. I like it! I look forward to enjoying your Ikea kitchen posts. One of my dreams! Best, Pat

I used to be able to "go-go-go" but lately I've been slowed down (probably due to the broken bone in my foot) - checking your blog is getting me moving again. It just takes longer & longer to recover (urrghh)...

Uh oh! I did use the real stuff but I guess it's only fair if I get new stains after abusing the tiles like that :). I am planning to redo the floor at some point in the not so far future as the plumbing for it needs changing too. I'll keep it as is for now though to be sure I have a working toliet should (god forbid) the renovation of the bathroom take longer than planned.

As for your IKEA faucet I would have thought they'd adjust stuff like that according to different country standards. How odd that they don't...
