Wille and I spent Thursday to Monday at my friend Sanna and her family's summer house in Småland.
Birgitta, Sanna's mom, recently bought her sister's share of their inherited property and this year is the first with major renovations. New roof has been laid, trim and window frames are being painted as we speak, a new coat of "falu rödfärg" will be painted on and during the winter months parts of the back of the house will be renovated by professionals.
Here are some shots of what we've been up to and some house details.
Wille and Leo went canoeing...
... and picked water lilies and enormous blueberries.
Sanna, Sebastian and I went to an auction and a huge flea market...
... where I eyed this table but decided against it. No where to put it...
We also went to a little village called Öhr where we had sandwiches at a small café...
... with some neat looking shops next door. All in all a lovely weekend!
Verkar som ni haft en toppenhelg! Jag älskar den där cykeln, vilket fantastiskt konstverk!! :)

My husband's family comes from Borlange and lives in a neighbourhood of those beautiful red houses.
Makes me want to take my family and go for a visit!

Åh till blomman i fönstret. Åh till den härliga lilla glasfarstun. Åh till skyltarna. Åh till den stickgraffitiklädda cykeln och dubbel Åh till det gröna bordet.

Lovely. What is the roofing material? It looks like tile or terra cotta. Is that typcial for Swedish homes? Homes in the country?

How absolutely charming! Thank you for these wonderful photos - I just love the summer house. Maybe you can go back next year and show us the renovations?

I don't know much about it. It was sitting outside this design store and I just had to take a photo of it. I guess they might be inspired by those knitted lamp posts that are around. It must have taken quite a while for them to knit that!

They are brick tiles. Very typical for Sweden I would say. We have them on our house too.

Thanks Benita. It took awhile but I found your photo http://www.flickr.com/photos/chezlarsson/2446817160/in/set-72157603439433970/ showing your roof tiles. The roof on the house in Småland is more steeply pitched, so the roofing material is more obvious. It's interesting that Swedish roofs are made of brick tiles - I tend to associate those tiles with Mediterranean homes.

I love the summer house. By looking at the picture, it already make me feel like I am on holidays. Thanks Benita

It does look a lovely weekend. I wish I could have been there.

What a dream weekend. Your friend's home is lovely and the cafe and flea market looked so inviting. The metal advertising signs on the wall brought me back to my childhood. I haven't seen those signs in ages but they were all around when I was growing up. "Esso" is the original name for Exxon. And Bell Telephone has merged so many times, I don't know what it is anymore. Plus, I don't know about Sweden, but in the US it's almost impossible to find a pay phone (so no need for those signs); it's cell phones or nothing.

Att jag inte var där ;-)
Fast jag har precis som du ingenstans att ha det, står just nu upp över öronen i källaren och försöker rensa och komma i någon form av ordning där nere, puh! Skam den som ger sig:-)

Thank you for showing these photos from Smaland. My paternal grandmother was from there originally and I've always wanted to visit. It looks charming!
