Ok, here's the deal. Martin insisted I show you this "so they can see that you are human". What?! He thinks I'm showing you to much perfectionism and that it will be good for you to see me doing a messy job "for once". Duh!
When we built the desk in the boat room Martin wanted it at a level so he could see out through the window which is set quite high, this being in the basement, so a normal height chair or in this case stool didn't work. Because I wanted a quick fix and didn't want to spend any cash I decided to rebuild the existing stool and make it higher. This is where the messy job appears.
What I did was simply to lengthen the existing legs by using wood plugs and wood glue. It's not my finest work, I admit that , but it won't be visible from the ouside. Heck, I can probably sweep things under the carpet too if I tried!
After lengthening the legs I added planks all the way around for extra stability.
I stapled on some more of batting that was already on the low stool.
Because I was in a hurry (I'm always in a hurry btw) and also like the fabric that used to be on the low stools, which were originally in Wille's room a few years ago, I simply let the hem down on one and...
...cut the bottom part off the other and sewed them together. The stripes were both a blessing (when cutting) and a nightmare (when sewing)...
... and the end result is good enough until we find that perfect high stool. Preferably on a flea market budget.
This is not messy work! That would be one of my best work... Anyway, it's so nice that Supergirl is flying in the direction of my messy home tonight. Yer more than welcome!
Kram! Anne

Benita, your messy work is neater than my neat work. Thanks for sharing your "humanity"!

Tell Martin not to worry. I still remember your blog post "Official Messy Day" or something like that. I was so happy to see that you were normal then. :) Love your work!

I adore the fabric! And what a great idea!
(I think Martin might be jealous of your cleverness! LOL)

Dear Martin: You've only succeeded in proving that Miracle Girl is alive and well. That would have been some of my BEST work. :)

O.k. and where is a post about human? I miss something or? ;-)

Oh Martin has it all wrong! Showing this just proves your perfectionism! You're willing to do all this to get it right. And don't get me wrong, I'm a perfectionist and a lot like you in many ways. :-)

If you are messy then I am an absolute disaster!!!

Who says it's not human to be a perfectionist? We all try :)

** blink blink blink **
Where is the messy work? You're a crazy woman! This is FANTASTIC. Might not be perfect, but what is?!?! I love how you don't fear a challenge. You're always prepared. :)
Love it.

wow! i thought i was messy but now i realize i'm a diaster LMAO
Posted by: reba | July 01, 2009 at 12:49 PM
LOL! It is good to know you are human like the rest of us...although I agree with the rest that it isn't that messy and it works so, hey, if you can't see it, who cares, right?
I have been accused of painting my life as perfect on my blog as well...although, when I added a little realism, I got complaints about that as well. I don't think you can win!

I think it is very clear you are human - I always love that you can give a rather run-down box new life in your home. Seeing the beauty in the ordinary is about accepting the imperfections of that piece!

OMG! If that is being human then i am totally an alien!!!!
Martin thinks THAT is messy...he really needs to be married to one of us for some time!!!! :D
Anyway..as you look human in pictures i always try to have you as a model...if Benita can...i can! well..at least i say that...

Just to let you know that I can only get to your blog via google reader. It says that Internet Explorer cannot open the site. Operation Aborted.
Do not know what is going on.

I'm sorry, those who have Internet Explorer 7 seem to have this problem at times. I've tried to eliminate it with the help of Typepad etc but it still seems there for some unfortunately. These past few days I've removed some scripts in my sidebar, can you try and remeve temporary internet files and cookies on your computer now and see if it helps? I had the same problem before but I can access the page again.

You reminded me how much I love blue ticking stripe. I'll have to find a good place to use that fabric in my home.

Uhhh, fail to see the messiness, looks pretty perfect to me...better luck next time Martin!
