After the holidays I grew tired of the cube shelves in the livingroom. At the moment they are in storage but they may pop up somewhere else around the house later.
In their place I've hung a 70x100 cm (27"x39") canvas. To begin with it was just blank for a couple of weeks until I could decide what to do with it. Then I went for green. Lovely green but it ended up clashing with the other greens in the room. So I repainted it white. And now yellow. Hmmm.
Any which way I kind of like the idea of being able to add a fairly large bit of color to a room without having to repaint a wall. It's an alternative to paint color swatches straight on to a wall too. And for those of you who rent it way be a way to introduce color when you're not allowed to paint.
If the size canvas you want isn't available ready made you can usually have a frame custom made in your size and canvas stretched onto it in an art store. Or if you're crafty you can build your own frame.
Oh, and the little cute framed piece on the mantle is by Cosas Mínimas.
Mm... somehow I've got the feeling it might be nicer if it's not one solid color. How about putting some nice fabric around it? Maybe that will solve your dilemma....

Petra, I really like the solid color and wouldn't want a piece of fabric. The yellow is really growing on me so I think that may stick for a while :)

Snyggt! Synd att den gröna skar sig, grönt är ju så fantastiskt vackert :-)

Love the yellow and love the solid color, too. What kind of paint did you use? I've never painted on canvas before. Is there a special kind you use for canvases? Also, did you use a brush or roller (can you tell I've never done this before??) Also, thanks for the suggestions for my question on keeping files in the email that I sent to you!

Benita, I've wanted to do the exact same thing too! I was inspired by a domino photo (http://www.dominomag.com/galleries/rooms/bedroom/befores_afters8) I really like how it turned out for you. I *love* colour but I've learned that I need a white base (actually cream in this apartment due to the "cold" light that we get here). It's a great accent that you can change your mind about :-). I like the green but I love the yellow. I don't think that a solid canvas like that needs embellishment - it's almost like a punctuation mark in the room as a whole.

That's very clever. I like the yellow.

Snyggt. Jag giller det gula molto!
Och om du någonsin får för dig att göra dig av med några kuber så skrik högt! August var väldigt förtjust i Willes sist vi var där och vill ha sådana. Jag har lovat att jag ska bygga. Vilket år som helst...

At first I thought green but I really like the yellow. Great tips for apartment dwellers too!

Ksenia, How funny! That's exactly the same!

Kelly, I bought a fat tube of acrylic (dries in 30 minutes) artist paint (well actually three tubes, the green, the yellow and a white to make the colors slightly softer) and used a brush to apply. I didn't do a neat job of it, just brushed it on in all directions until it was covered.

Very very clever. As usual! Du! Du hittar så söta tryck. Du kan få bli min personal shopper på Etsy! Kram!

I've been in an ongoing project like this - with patterned fabric. I'll tell you, it's really expensive to buy a pre-made frame, unless you stick with standard sizes. Instead, I found stretcher bars for sale on the web - so much cheaper :)

The yellow!!!! I do this too. You have the best place and ideas/style.
I have used them plain (unpainted), painted with wall paint (flat, gloss, etc). acrylic tube paint, paint wash - paint mixed with water, clear glue. It's so fun. I have some that have evolved into collages.

Also, they can be changed so easily; when you are tired of them or want a change, you just repaint or add to them and if you want to swap them out, they are small/narrow enough to store away.

Oh, I love the yellow on the canvas and it reminds me of the book the Persistence of Yellow.
If you click Flassie it will take you to
the blog entry I made about the book and
a link to see more of the illustrations
at amazon. The illustrator uses one line
illustrations and doesn't lift her hand
while drawing them.
I have a yellow frame that color and haven't
figured out yet what I will put in it. But I want it to have yellow inside.
Love your blog!
God Bless You and Yours!!!
